Before and After Photos That Stay With the Job
Your tech opens the job in the iOS or Android app, takes the picture and it is attached to that job. No camera roll, no renaming files, no uploading later. The office sees it on the job record, and you can find it when a customer calls months afterward.
Photos are on Pro and Enterprise · The mobile app is on every plan
The photo is on someone's camera roll
A customer calls three weeks after a repair. The ceiling under the bathroom is stained, and they say your tech caused it. Your tech is fairly sure he photographed the existing damage before he started. It is somewhere on his personal phone, between his kid's soccer game and a parts receipt.
Job site photos only protect you if you can find them, tied to the right job, months later. That is the difference between a photo app and job photo documentation.
A photo shows what the work was
A signature says the customer accepted the work. A photo shows what the work was. When there is a dispute, the second one carries weight.
California's Contractors State License Board tells parties in its voluntary arbitration program to be prepared to prove their case with photographs, and says both perspective and close-up views are especially helpful in establishing a defect.
We cover this in more depth in why a signature isn't proof of service.
How Job Photos Work in FSM Navigator
Taken in the App, Attached to the Job
Your tech opens the job, goes to the Photos tab and takes the picture. It is attached to that job without switching apps, and the office sees it on the job record.
Works in the Basement
The app is offline-first. Photos taken without signal are saved on the phone and sent when it reconnects, so your tech does not have to remember to upload them. See the offline field service app.
On the Invoice and in Forms
Photos can be included on the invoice you send. Job forms can carry photo fields, so the shots you always want are part of the checklist. See job forms and signatures.
Photos are part of the job's history, so the tech who goes back to the same customer sees what you found last time. Enterprise adds work order documents for permits and inspection reports.
What to Photograph on Every Job
Before
- The problem as you found it, with a wide shot that shows where you are
- Existing damage you did not cause, close up and wide
During
- The old part's label or model plate, and the new one going in
- Anything that will be covered up: inside a wall, under a slab, inside a panel
After
- The finished work, from the same angle as the before shot
- The area cleaned up when you leave
Put the standard on a job form checklist so it happens the same way on every job. For a fuller guide, read field service photo documentation.
Where should the photos live?
A dedicated photo app is a good tool if photos are the main thing you document, such as multi-week projects. It usually means a second app, a second login and photos living apart from the job, the invoice and the customer record.
If you already need an app for scheduling, dispatch and invoicing, keeping photos on the job means one less app for your techs and one less place to search when a customer calls. FSM Navigator is one app from first call to renewals: the booking, the quote, the job with its photos, the invoice and the maintenance plan.
Which plan has job photos
Job photos are on Pro and Enterprise, and Enterprise allows more photos per job. See pricing for each plan's allowance. The mobile app itself, including working without signal, is on every plan. See the full mobile app.
Job Photo Questions
Do job photos help in a dispute?
They help. A photo attached to the job record is easier to produce than one on a tech's personal phone, and California's contractor licensing board says photographs are especially helpful in establishing a defect.
Can techs take job photos without signal?
Yes. The app is offline-first. Photos taken without signal are saved on the phone and sent to the job when it reconnects.
Where do the photos go?
They are attached to the job and show on the job record in the office and in the job's history.
Can photos go on the invoice?
Yes. Job photos can be included in the invoice you send. This is on Pro and Enterprise.
How many photos can I add to a job?
It depends on your plan. Enterprise allows more per job than Pro; the allowance for each plan is on the pricing page.
Is there a job photo feature on the Free plan?
No. Job photos start on Pro. The mobile app itself is on every plan.
Do I need a separate job site photo app?
Not if your field service app keeps photos on the job. A separate photo app makes sense mainly for long project work with heavy photo needs.
