Custom Domain¶
Enterprise feature
A custom domain for your booking page is included with the Enterprise plan. On the Pro plan, the Custom Domain tab shows an upgrade note instead. Compare plans to find the right fit for your business.
A custom domain lets customers open your booking page at your own web address, such as book.acmehvac.com, instead of your FSM Navigator link. Owners and managers can add, check and remove the domain.
Open it from the side menu: Operations → Booking Page, then choose the Custom Domain tab.
Before you start¶
- Use a subdomain. Pick an address such as
book.acmehvac.comorschedule.acmehvac.com. A bare domain such asacmehvac.comcannot be connected. - You need access to your DNS settings. DNS is usually managed where you bought the domain, or by your website host. If someone else manages your website, send them the two records below.
- Your booking page should already be set up. See Booking Page for the profile, services and settings.
Add your domain¶
- On the Custom Domain tab, type your subdomain in Your domain, for example
book.acmehvac.com. - Select Add domain.
- The tab shows two DNS records. Add both at your DNS provider exactly as shown.
| Type | Name | Points to |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | book.acmehvac.com | the address shown on the tab |
| CNAME | _acme-challenge.book.acmehvac.com | the address shown on the tab |
The first record sends visitors to your booking page. The second lets us issue and renew the security certificate that keeps your page on https://.
Copy the values from the tab
The Points to values are specific to your domain. Always copy them from the Custom Domain tab rather than typing them from memory.
Is your domain on Cloudflare? Turn the proxy off
If your DNS is managed in Cloudflare, set both records to DNS only (the grey cloud), not Proxied (the orange cloud). A proxied record hides the CNAME, so we can't see where it points and your domain stays at Waiting for DNS. Other DNS providers don't have this setting, so there's nothing to change there.
DNS changes can take a few hours to reach everyone. We check your domain automatically and email your account owners when it is connected. You can also select Check now on the tab.
What each status means¶
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for DNS | We saved your domain and are waiting to see the two DNS records. | Add both records. If they are already in place, give DNS a few hours. |
| Connected | Your booking page is live at your domain. The tab shows the live link and a Copy link button. | Share the new address with your customers. |
| Could not connect | We could not verify the domain within 14 days, or the domain was not accepted. The tab explains the reason. | Check the DNS records, then add the domain again. |
| Disconnected | A connected domain stopped pointing at your booking page for about a day, or your plan no longer includes a custom domain. | Check the first DNS record, then add the domain again. |
| Removed | You or our support team removed the domain, or your plan stopped including a custom domain while it was still waiting for DNS. | Add a domain again whenever you are ready. |
While a domain is Connected, your FSM Navigator booking link sends visitors to your own address, so search engines list one page for your business. If the domain is disconnected or removed, your page goes back to its FSM Navigator link and customers can keep booking.
Help people find your page in search¶
Once the domain is Connected, copy the address from the tab and:
- add it to Google Search Console, so you can see how your page shows up in search, and
- use it as the website on your Google Business Profile.
Both are done in your own Google accounts. The connected email reminds you of these steps too.
Add Google Analytics¶
You can see visits to your booking page in your own Google Analytics 4 account. The data goes to your Google Analytics property, not to FSM Navigator, and we cannot see it.
- In Google Analytics, open Admin → Data streams, choose your web stream and copy the Measurement ID. It starts with
G-, for exampleG-A1B2C3D4E5. - On the Custom Domain tab, paste it into Measurement ID under Google Analytics.
- Select Save.
If the ID is not in the right format, the box shows an error and nothing is saved. You can save the ID before your domain is connected; it shows Starts when your custom domain is live until then. To stop using Google Analytics, clear the box and select Save.
When it runs:
- Only on your custom domain. Your FSM Navigator link and the Preview tab never load it.
- Only for visitors who allow it. Your page shows a small cookie banner with Allow and Decline. Nothing loads until a visitor selects Allow, and nothing loads at all for visitors whose browser sends a "do not track" or Global Privacy Control signal. Visitors can change their choice any time with Cookie choices at the bottom of the page.
What is sent: one page view with your page address, without anything after a ? or # in the link. Nothing a customer types into your request form is sent.
Two settings to turn off in Google Analytics
In Google Analytics, open Admin → Data streams → Enhanced measurement and turn off Form interactions and Site search. They are on by default and would send extra events about your request form.
Your privacy notice
You are responsible for the analytics on your page. Tell your visitors about it in your own privacy notice. See section 10.1 of the Terms of Service.
Remove your domain¶
- On the Custom Domain tab, select Remove domain.
- Confirm.
Your booking page goes back to its FSM Navigator link right away. You can then delete the two DNS records at your DNS provider.
If you change plans¶
A custom domain needs the Enterprise plan. If your plan changes and no longer includes it, a connected domain stays connected for about one more day and is then disconnected. A domain that is still waiting for DNS is removed. Your booking page keeps working at its FSM Navigator link. Upgrade again and add the domain to reconnect it.
Google Analytics stops on your page as soon as your plan no longer includes it. Your saved measurement ID is kept and shown on the tab but cannot be changed. It starts again on its own once you are back on Enterprise and your domain is connected.
Emails you will receive¶
Account owners get an email when the domain is connected, when it could not be connected, and when it is disconnected. The email repeats the DNS records when they need attention. You can turn these emails off under Custom Booking Domain Status in your email preferences.
