General settings¶
General settings cover the core company-wide defaults that drive billing, dispatch, and travel-cost calculations across FSM Navigator. These values apply to every user in your company.
Navigate to Settings → General to manage these options.
Owner access required
Only users with the Owner role can modify general settings. The Onboarding Mode card is also visible to the Owner only. See Roles and permissions for details.
Currency¶
The currency for your company is locked to US Dollar (USD) at this time. All invoices, payments, payouts, and financial reports are calculated and displayed in USD.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Currency | US Dollar (USD) — $ |
Multi-currency support
Multi-currency is on the roadmap but not yet available. If your business operates in another currency, please contact support — we are tracking demand to prioritize the rollout.
Distance unit¶
Choose whether distances are displayed and calculated in Miles or Kilometers. This setting affects:
- Mileage shown on jobs and travel reports.
- Fuel-cost labels (per mile vs. per kilometer).
- Distance figures used by intelligent dispatch when matching the closest technician.
- Travel-savings reporting.
| Option | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Miles | United States, United Kingdom, Canada |
| Kilometers | Most other regions |
Changing your distance unit¶
- Open Settings → General.
- Select Miles or Kilometers.
- Click Save.
The fuel-cost field below updates its label automatically (e.g., Fuel Cost per Mile becomes Fuel Cost per Kilometer).
Fuel cost¶
Set your average vehicle fuel cost per mile (or per kilometer, depending on the distance unit selected above). This single number drives travel-cost estimates and travel-savings reporting across the platform.
| Field | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel Cost per Mile / Kilometer | $0.01 – $10.00 | $0.50 |
How to estimate your fuel cost
A common starting point in the United States is around $0.50 per mile. To refine it for your fleet, divide your weekly fuel spend by the total miles your technicians drove that week. Update this value occasionally as fuel prices change.
Updating your fuel cost¶
- Open Settings → General.
- Enter your average cost per mile or kilometer.
- Click Save.
The number is shown alongside live travel-cost examples on the same page so you can see the impact before saving.
Default technician hourly rate¶
This is the fallback hourly billing rate used when a technician does not have a specific rate set on their profile. It is used in job cost estimates, invoice line generation, and profitability reports.
| Field | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Default Technician Hourly Rate | $1.00 – $500.00 | $75.00 |
Per-technician overrides take priority
If a technician has their own hourly rate configured on their profile, that rate is used instead of this default. The default kicks in only when no per-technician rate is set.
Updating the default rate¶
- Open Settings → General.
- Enter the hourly rate.
- Click Save.
Existing invoices and historical reports are not affected — the new rate applies to future cost calculations.
Owner dashboard notifications¶
Toggle whether the Owner receives real-time alerts on the dashboard for critical company events such as:
- SLA breaches and overdue jobs.
- Missed technician check-ins.
- Low-inventory alerts.
- Daily summary digests.
| Field | Default |
|---|---|
| Enable Owner Dashboard Notifications | Off |
When this is off, dashboard alerts still appear on screen for the Owner — only the email side of these notifications is suppressed. Turn it on if you want the Owner to receive emails for these events as well.
Turning Owner notifications on or off¶
- Open Settings → General.
- Toggle Enable Owner Dashboard Notifications.
- Click Save.
Onboarding mode¶
Onboarding mode is a temporary setting that multiplies the normal API rate limits by 10× so that bulk user imports, training sessions, and rapid first-week setup do not trip the platform's anti-abuse limits.
Owner-only card
The Onboarding Mode card is visible only to the Owner. Other roles will not see it on the General settings page.
| Field | Options | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 1 week | 48 hours |
| Rate-limit multiplier | 10× normal limits (fixed) | — |
When to enable onboarding mode¶
- Bulk user imports — adding many users in a short window.
- Group training sessions — when a room full of new users will be exercising the app simultaneously.
- Rapid initial setup — the first day or two while you load customers, jobs, and inventory.
Enabling onboarding mode¶
- Open Settings → General.
- Scroll to the Onboarding Mode card.
- Choose a Duration (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, or 1 week).
- Toggle the switch on.
- The card shows a live countdown until the mode expires.
Onboarding mode automatically expires after the duration you selected — you do not need to remember to turn it off. You can also disable it manually at any time by toggling the switch off.

Frequently asked questions¶
Can I switch currency to something other than USD?
Not at this time. Currency is locked to US Dollar across all companies. Multi-currency support is planned — contact support if you would like to register interest.
Does changing the distance unit affect historical jobs?
The unit change affects how distances are displayed going forward. Historical mileage values stored on past jobs are not retroactively converted.
What happens to a technician with their own hourly rate when I change the default?
Nothing — per-technician rates always take priority over the default. The default only applies to technicians who have no rate configured.
Is onboarding mode safe to leave on?
It is automatically capped at the duration you selected (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, or 1 week) and expires on its own. We recommend turning it on only while you are actively onboarding so normal rate limits resume protecting the account afterward.
Will Owner dashboard notifications spam my inbox?
The notifications are reserved for material events — SLA breaches, overdue jobs, missed check-ins, low inventory, and daily summaries. If you do not want them by email, leave the toggle off; you will still see the alerts on the dashboard.
