Push notifications¶
Push notifications keep you in the loop the moment something happens — a new job is assigned, a status changes, an SLA deadline approaches, or a teammate sends a chat message. You control exactly which notifications you receive and when.
Enable push notifications¶
When you first open the app, it asks for permission to send notifications. Tap Allow to enable them.
If you skipped that prompt, you can enable notifications manually:
- Open your device Settings.
- Scroll down and tap FSM Navigator.
- Tap Notifications.
- Toggle Allow Notifications on.
- Open your device Settings.
- Tap Apps → FSM Navigator.
- Tap Notifications.
- Toggle Show notifications on.
Notifications must be enabled at the device level
The in-app notification settings only control which types of alerts you receive. If notifications are disabled at the operating-system level, you won't receive any alerts regardless of your in-app preferences.
Notification types¶
FSM Navigator sends notifications for the events that matter most to field teams.
| Notification | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| New job assigned | A job has been assigned to you. | On |
| Job reassigned | A job you were working on has been reassigned to someone else. | On |
| Job status changed | A dispatcher or another technician updated the status of one of your jobs. | On |
| SLA warning | A job's SLA deadline is approaching — typically triggered at 75% and 90% of elapsed time. | On |
| SLA breached | A job has passed its SLA deadline without being completed. | On |
| New chat message | A teammate sent a message in a job's chat thread. | On |
| Dispatcher note added | A dispatcher added a note to one of your jobs. | On |
| Low stock alert | A part in your van stock has fallen below the minimum threshold. | On |
| Schedule change | Your job schedule for the day has been modified. | On |
| Maintenance due | An asset assigned to your upcoming job has a maintenance alert. | On |
Customize your preferences¶
You control which notification types you receive.
- Open the Account tab in the mobile app.
- Tap Notification Preferences.
- Toggle each notification type on or off.
- Your preferences save automatically.
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Job alerts | New assignments, reassignments, and status changes. |
| SLA alerts | SLA warnings and breach notifications. |
| Chat messages | Incoming team chat messages on your jobs. |
| Inventory alerts | Low stock warnings when parts fall below minimum thresholds. |
| Schedule changes | Modifications to your daily schedule. |
| Asset alerts | Maintenance reminders and meter threshold warnings. |
Keep critical alerts enabled
We recommend leaving New job assigned and SLA warning notifications enabled at all times. These are the most time-sensitive alerts for field technicians.
Quiet hours¶
Set a daily window during which notifications are silenced. This prevents alerts from disturbing you outside of working hours.
- Open Account → Notification Preferences.
- Toggle Quiet Hours on.
- Set a Start time — for example,
6:00 PM. - Set an End time — for example,
7:00 AM. - Tap Save.
During quiet hours:
- Notifications are not delivered to your device.
- Alerts are not lost — they are delivered and your badge count updates when quiet hours end.
- SLA breach notifications are exempt from quiet hours by default, because they represent critical deadlines.
Quiet hours use your device timezone
Quiet hours are based on the timezone set on your mobile device, not your company timezone. If you travel across time zones, adjust your device clock accordingly.
Notification badges¶
The app icon on your device home screen shows a badge count of unread notifications.
- iOS — A red circle with a number appears on the app icon.
- Android — A notification dot or number appears on the app icon (depending on your launcher).
The badge clears as you read your notifications in the app.
Troubleshooting¶
If you're not receiving notifications, work through these checks:
| Check | How to verify |
|---|---|
| Device permission | Go to your device settings and confirm notifications are allowed for FSM Navigator. |
| In-app preferences | Open Account → Notification Preferences and verify the notification type is toggled on. |
| Quiet hours | Check that the current time is not within your quiet hours window. |
| Do Not Disturb | Make sure your device's Do Not Disturb mode is off, or that FSM Navigator is added as an exception. |
| Internet connection | Push notifications require an internet connection to arrive. If you are offline, you receive them when you reconnect. |
| App version | Make sure you are running the latest version of the app. Outdated versions may have notification issues. |
Test with a teammate
Ask your dispatcher to assign you a test job. If you receive the New job assigned notification, your setup is working correctly.
Frequently asked questions¶
Can my dispatcher see whether I received a notification?
Dispatchers can see that a notification was sent, but they cannot confirm whether your device received it. If you are having notification issues, let your dispatcher know.
Do notifications work while the app is closed?
Yes. Push notifications are delivered by your device's operating system, not by the app itself. You receive alerts even when the app is not running.
Can I customize the notification sound?
On Android, you can choose a notification sound in your device settings under Apps → FSM Navigator → Notifications. On iOS, the app uses the system default notification sound.
What happens to notifications when I'm offline?
Notifications require an internet connection to arrive. Any notifications sent while you are offline are delivered when your device reconnects.
Can I receive notifications on the web dashboard too?
The web dashboard shows in-app notifications (the bell icon in the top navigation). Browser push notifications are not currently supported — mobile push is the primary real-time alert channel.
