Global search

Find anything in FSM Navigator without navigating between pages. The global search bar lets you search across jobs, customers, invoices, technicians, and other records from a single input — with results appearing in real time as you type.

You can access global search from anywhere in FSM Navigator using either of these methods:

Method How
Click Click the search icon () in the top navigation bar
Keyboard shortcut Press Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+K (Mac)

The search overlay opens with the cursor focused in the input field, ready to type.

Keyboard-first workflow

Press Ctrl+K to open search, type your query, use the arrow keys to navigate results, and press Enter to open a result — all without touching your mouse.

Search across everything

Start typing and results appear immediately. Global search looks across multiple record types at once:

Record type What is searched Example query
Jobs Job title, description, status AC repair, Pending
Customers Customer name, email, phone Acme Services, john@
Invoices Invoice number, status, amount INV-0042, Paid
Technicians Technician name, email Maria, tech@
Locations Address, city, location name 123 Main St, Chicago

Results are grouped by type and ranked by relevance, so the most likely match appears at the top.

Once results appear, you can interact with them in several ways:

Using the keyboard

Key Action
Up / Down Move through the result list
Enter Open the selected result
Esc Close the search overlay

Using the mouse

  • Click any result to navigate directly to that record's detail page.
  • Click outside the search overlay or press the X button to close it.

Result details

Each search result shows:

  • Record type icon — A visual indicator of whether the result is a job, customer, invoice, or other type
  • Primary label — The name, title, or number of the record
  • Secondary details — Additional context such as status, date, or address

Filter by record type

If you know what type of record you are looking for, you can narrow results to a specific category:

  1. Open the search bar with Ctrl+K or by clicking the search icon.
  2. Type your search query.
  3. Click a record type tab (e.g., Jobs, Customers, Invoices) above the result list to show only that type.
  4. The results update immediately to show only matching records of the selected type.

Default: all types

By default, search shows results across all record types. Filtering narrows the view without changing your query.

Real-time results

Global search is designed for speed:

  • Results appear as you type — No need to press Enter or click a search button.
  • Instant updates — The result list updates with each keystroke.
  • Recent searches — When you open the search bar, you may see your recent search queries for quick access.

Tips for effective searching

Use these strategies to find what you need faster.

Be specific

The more specific your query, the fewer results you need to scan:

Instead of Try
repair AC repair Johnson
invoice INV-0042
pending pending Chicago

Use partial matches

You do not need to type the full name or number. Partial matches work well:

  • Typing Mar matches Maria, Marcus, and Marble Street.
  • Typing INV-00 shows all invoices starting with that prefix.

Combine keywords

Add multiple terms to narrow results. For example, pending repair shows jobs that match both words.
